Our vision

Foruma aims to be an open, inclusive community for discussing mathematics in the AI age. As mathematical research accelerates, we want to bring together people from different backgrounds to ask questions, share insights, and help one another understand both existing literature and new ideas. Our vision is a knowledge bazaar where people and AI work together to deepen understanding and make new discoveries.

Community boards

Papers gives each paper a shared discussion home. Mathematics is for ideas and questions that stand on their own. Jobs is for opportunities in the mathematical community. AI & Academia covers the use of AI tools and how AI affects research, learning, and academic life.

Use AI & Academia to share AI tools, practical workflows and experiences, and to discuss learning and teaching, research practice, academic life and careers, and ethics and policy. Specific paper content belongs in Papers; actual recruitment belongs in Jobs. You can link to papers in a broader AI discussion. Describe the question, context and observed limitations without disclosing schools, supervisors or other people’s personal information.

Jobs

Share specific opportunities in Open positions. Use Job market discussions for application experience, interviews and career questions across positions. Clearly distinguish rumors from confirmed information. Replies on an opportunity can discuss its requirements, research fit, materials and application progress.

Make a useful contribution

  • Ask clear questions and give enough context.
  • Explain your reasoning, credit sources, and separate speculation from established results.
  • Be generous with people and precise with ideas. No harassment or unsolicited promotion.
  • Community discussion is not a formal scholarly review or a claim of proof verification.

Paper sources and versions

Paper metadata is retrieved on demand. A member confirms a result before creating a shared page. Identical source identifiers resolve to the same page; similar titles alone do not establish identity. Each discussion records the source version it addresses. Original papers remain on their source websites.

Public beta and participation

Public beta describes the stage of Foruma, not mathematical correctness or verified credentials. Published discussions are readable without a Foruma account. Where public registration is open, an ordinary email can register; confirmed email and server admission grant ordinary participation without institution verification. Capacity and pauses affect new admission, not existing accounts. Staff permissions are separate. Development staging remains access protected.

Eligible new discussions and replies publish immediately and can be reported for review. Reports do not automatically hide content. Authors can save edits to their own published discussions and replies immediately; earlier versions remain in history. New tags and paper metadata still require independent review. Public readers see available published content. Bookmarks are private; follows notify you of published activity. Likes and reputation reflect appreciation, not mathematical verification, and do not grant permissions.

Membership verification

Unverified members can post named Jobs discussions, use community interactions, propose tags and paper metadata, and revise their own content. Other new discussions, all replies and anonymous posts require public-beta admission, institution verification, active Beta access or an active staff role. Eligible new discussions and replies publish immediately. Authors can save edits to their own published discussions and replies immediately. Tag proposals and paper metadata still require review; staff participation does not certify institution verification.

One-time institution verification proves control of a recognized mailbox, not current affiliation, identity or academic credentials. Higher education and independent nonprofit research institutions, including alumni, are eligible. Unrecognized domains can be reviewed; schools and training providers are excluded.

Anonymous participation

Members admitted through public beta, institution-verified members, active manual Beta members and active staff may choose a discussion-local anonymous identity before their first submission. The choice stays fixed in that discussion. Formal job openings remain named; their replies may be anonymous. Authorized administrators can access the real author for moderation only through a separate, reasoned and privately audited action. Your writing, links and outside information can still identify you. Anonymous contributions do not enter your public profile or reputation.

Moving drafts between domains

Drafts stay in this browser on the domain where you wrote them. They do not move automatically from staging to foruma.org. Before leaving staging, reopen each draft and keep a private copy of its title, text, tags and any Jobs fields. Note the board, paper/source version, discussion/reply target and anonymous choice. Keep the original tab or saved draft until you have checked your copy.

On foruma.org, sign in to the same account and open the same context before pasting. Check the paper version and posting identity again; existing server identity locks still apply. Do not publish both copies. If a prior submission result was unknown, inspect My discussions or the original request result before submitting again. Never put a draft or authentication information in a URL. Clearing browser storage removes local drafts.

Feedback and account requests

For feedback, complaints or account-related requests, email forumainfo@gmail.com. Do not send passwords, codes or sign-in links. Requests are handled manually; include only the information needed to explain the issue. See Privacy.

Built with open source

This independent Next.js application adapts NodeBBS discussion rows and URL-driven sorting, and uses Flarum ItemList for ordered navigation. Both are MIT licensed. Exact revisions, adaptations, and license texts are retained with the source.

The institution directory reuses MIT-licensed SWOT mailbox-domain data (Copyright © 2013 Lee Reilly) and Hipo university domains (Copyright © 2014–2025 Hipo). Exact cross-matches provide initial higher-education coverage; administrator-reviewed evidence can add other eligible domains. Coverage and classification are not exhaustive. Full licenses and pinned sources are retained in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.

It is not a full installation of either forum. Paper discovery, version-bound discussions, the local data adapter, and the visual identity are specific to Foruma.
